Stay for Awhile

I understand why you want to leave

And start over new

You want a fresh start

You want a redo.

You were hurt so deeply

Right where you are

You crave a blank slate

Someplace no one knows your broken heart.

A place that doesn’t label you 

By your past mistakes

You so desperately try to forget

Because of the shame it creates.

You don’t like that person

So you want to leave

Be someone else

Instead of grieve.

Grieve the hardships you’ve endured

Mourn the loss of that precious little girl

But I want to tell you something…

She didn’t go anywhere.

Under all that hurt

And pain,

And shame

And guilt,

That precious little girl is still waiting to be felt.

She was abandoned,

Betrayed,

Ignored,

Shamed.

And it’s time to feel it all over again.

Which is not easy to do

It’s much easier to move.

But it won’t change things.

You have to dig deep

Uncover the lies

Go to the source of anger, pain,

And disappointed sighs.

Because humans fail us

We’re human, it’s what we do

And God knows you have too.

But that doesn’t mean 

That He will do that to you.

Sometimes Dads aren’t there

Or our Moms don’t care

But the truth is,

We have a Heavenly Father

Who will always be there.

Hold His strong and gentle hand

As you walk through the darkest places of your heart

I promise He’ll show you true love 

And you will heal instead of hitting “RESTART.”
